Three... Two... One... PHOENIXES! PHOENIXES! PHOENIXES!
–Nai'o
Roundball is a popular sport in Palia that is mentioned by various Villagers.
Description
Roundball is a ball sport played between opposing teams consisting of Majiri and Galdur. According to Caleri the ball itself is "as big as a Palhawk egg", while Subira calls it "a rubber children toy". The number of players on the field and the exact rules of the game are currently still unknown to the Player. Known playing positions are pitcher and center bouncer. Since there is also the possibility of a "strike out", Roundball seems to be a bat-and-ball game – which would make it somewhat similar to real-life games like baseball, softball or cricket.
Cycles & Championship
Roundball is played in so-called "cycles" and there is a yearly Great Championship held in Makuu City, the capital. Most recently the Bahari Bay Phoenixes made it to the Championship.
Location
Roundball is played in a stadium with at least some spectators sitting on bleachers.
Known sports fields are in Bahari City and Makuu City; however, since there are teams from other regions, it can be assumed that there are many more throughout Palia.
Teams
Known Roundball teams are:
- The Bahari Bay Phoenixes
- The Barafuu Silkies
- The Inyrevn Turtles
- The Rolling Unicorns
Popularity
Roundball is a sport with a lively fan base. While some Palians like Hassian or Subira, strongly dislike the game, others like Auni, Nai'o and Sabine are avid fans, who watch the games whenever they can, keep up with the scores, and know the fan chants by heart.
Trivia
- Nai'o once wanted to put a team for Kilima Valley together, The Kilima Kitsuus, but tryouts went poorly.
