How time works in Palia
A Palia day lasts one real hour, and Palia midnight is at the top of every real hour. That matters more than it sounds: many fish and bugs only show up at certain times of the Palia day, and some events happen at the same minute every hour.
| Period | Palia time | Real time, every hour |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | 3 AM – 6 AM | :07:30 – :15 |
| Day | 6 AM – 6 PM | :15 – :45 |
| Evening | 6 PM – 9 PM | :45 – :52:30 |
| Night | 9 PM – 3 AM | :52:30 – :07:30 |
- The daily reset is at 04:00 UTC: villager chats and gifts, rummage piles and other once-a-day things come back.
- The weekly reset is on Monday at the same time: new weekly wants and weekly challenges.
- Daily quests change at 8:00 UTC, not at the daily reset.
See the Palia clock for the time right now.
Your first day
The main story is your tutorial: it gives you a home, your first tools and the people who teach you everything else. Its first quests, in order:
- Welcome to Palia from Jina
- Learning the Ropes from Ashura
- Mysterious Object from Badruu
- Ancient Battery from Jina
- Like a Bird from Jina
- Echoes of the Unknown from Jina
"Welcome to Palia" hands you Makeshift Axe, Makeshift Pick, Worktable: enough to clear your plot and start building.
Every quest has a walkthrough on our quest pages.
The skills, and who teaches them 9
"Learning the Ropes" sends you round the villagers who teach the first skills. The rest you'll pick up along the way. Each skill levels on its own; the XP guides show the fastest way up.
| Skill | You learn it from |
|---|---|
| Fishing | Einar |
| Bug Catching | Auni |
| Hunting | Hassian |
| Foraging | along the way |
| Mining | along the way |
| Gardening | Badruu |
| Cooking | Reth |
| Furniture Making | Tish |
| Ranching | Delaila |
The first levels come quickly (240 XP for level 2), and each one after takes a bit more, up to 5,000 XP a level from level 9. Eating keeps your focus up, and focus adds a bonus to all the XP you earn, so cook and eat as you go.
Villagers and friendship 29
Palia has 29 villagers. Friendship is built a little every day:
- Talk to each villager once a day.
- Give one gift a day each. Things they love count for more, and every villager has a short list of weekly wants that changes on Monday.
- Friendship levels unlock their quests and rewards, and for some, romance.
See every villager: what they like, where they are right now and this week's wants.
Every day
- Chat and gift the villagers you're befriending.
- Daily quests: 2 a day, each helping you level a skill. Every daily quest.
- Rummage piles: one in each region a day (two in Elderwood and the Royal Highlands). Where they are.
- World events, every hour at the same minute:
| Event | Every real hour | In the game |
|---|---|---|
| Flow Tree Grove | :00 past every hour | 12:00 AM Palia time |
| Crab Wars | :17:30 past every hour | 7:00 AM Palia time |
| Flower Bloom | :30 past every hour | 12:00 PM Palia time |
| Zeki's Underground | :45–:07:30 past every hour | 6:00 PM Palia time |
| Piksii Blossom Bounce | :55 past every hour | 10:00 PM Palia time |
Every week
- Weekly wants: each villager's wish list, new every Monday.
- Weekly challenges for each skill, also reset on Monday.
- The bulletin board has bundles to fill for rewards; it changes with each patch.
- About once a month, the Maji Market opens in the evenings for a week.

Questions
What should I do first in Palia?
Follow the main story. "Welcome to Palia" sets up your home plot and gives you your first tools (Makeshift Axe, Makeshift Pick, Worktable), then "Learning the Ropes" sends you round the villagers who teach each skill. After that, pick whatever you enjoy: there's no wrong order.
How long is a day in Palia?
One Palia day lasts one real hour. Palia midnight is at the top of every real hour, so morning, day, evening and night all come round once an hour.
When is the daily reset in Palia?
Every day at 04:00 UTC: villager chats and gifts, rummage piles and other daily things come back. The weekly reset is on Monday at the same time.
When do daily quests reset?
Daily quests change at 8:00 UTC, not at the 04:00 reset. You get 2 a day.
How do I make friends with villagers?
Talk to each villager once a day and give them one gift a day. Items they want this week, and things they love, count for more. Friendship levels unlock their quests and rewards.
