Not only is the Flutterfox a loyal and stalwart companion on an adventure, their soft and resilient fur is also highly useful in the creation of certain luxury textiles. — In-Game Description
How to Obtain
To unlock ranching, you must first complete the quest
Like a Bird. Once you have earned your Glider,
Delaila will arrive at your Housing Plot and gift you the recipe for the
Barn Bell.
The Flutterfox can be quite elusive, and requires a bit of effort in order to find. Obtaining your own Flutterfox first requires reaching Ranching Level 10, and finding some Flutterhoney, after which
Elouisa may have some unique dialogue that can help you find your first Flutterfox.
Additional Flutterfoxes can be purchased from the Ranching Guild Store for 2,500 Gold.
Dialogue
Upon asking Elouisa for help
Elouisa
Have you been to the Highlands lately?
(Player)
Yes. Elouisa
Information needed
(Player)
No. Elouisa
Hmmm...Well, I would highly recommend making the journey.
Elouisa
During a few of my late-night expeditions, I've heard some strange scuttling footsteps and high-pitched chittering in that little grove by the south-western coast.
I haven't caught sight of the beast yet, but it might very well be the Flothman!
Although, I haven't known the Flothman to produce the types of noises I've been hearing. Perhaps it is something even more sinister...
But whatever it is, it needs a bit of encouragement to reveal itself - Some bait, perhaps.
If you happen across some flutterhoney, I'd try using that!
Just be wary of flutterfoxes...they love that stuff even more than the Flothman does.
If you're unsure where to find the Flutterfox, you can find it in the Royal Highlands near Mudan's Wall at coordinate B9, hiding close to a large Lantern Ash Tree.
Upon interacting with the Flutterfox
Flutterfox
(You hear a soft shuffling of stones from the nearby cliffside, and then the distinctive crunch of paws on grass.)
Flutterfox
(A flutterfox dashes out of a rocky alcove, and quickly pounces on the honey before you can react.)
Flutterfox
(You approach the creature, but by the time you are close enough to intervene, the jar is completely empty. The flutterfox, now only a foot or two away, blinks at you curiously.)
(Player)
Uh. Hi?
Flutterfox
(The flutterfox gives you a friendly squeak of acknowledgement.)
(Player)
You're kind of short for a Flothman.
Flutterfox
(The flutterfox swipes its tail defiantly and harrumphs in protest, but remains looking at you inquisitively.)
(Player)
(Reach out to pet it)
Flutterfox
(The flutterfox appears apprehensive at first, but it sniffs at the remaining honey on your fingers and then nudges its head into your awaiting palm.)
(Player)
Now you owe me a jar of honey.
Flutterfox
(The flutterfox trots out a small circle and sits down, letting out a sassy squeak as it does so.)
Flutterfox
(As you get up to leave, it runs a playful loop around your feet. It seems like it has decided to follow you home to your ranch!)
Produces
The Flutterfox has the ability Silky Coat. Once reaching age Young Adult or older, it will begin producing Silky Fluff, which can be used as an alternative to
Silk Thread.
