Biography

Mudan is an Ancient Human King from before the cataclysm who reigned over Humanity for 300 years. According to ancient texts, he was created by the divine Phoenix in the Land Beyond the Veil, sculpted from stone, clay, and Flowstone—a living magic at the heart of the world. The Phoenix, longing for companionship, breathed life into Mudan, making him the First Among Men.

Under Mudan's rule, humanity flourished in an era of peace, prosperity, and magic. Cities soared skyward. Flow—a mysterious energy tied to both creation and destruction—was bent to human will under his guidance. He was beloved by many for his gifts of music, magic, and apparent immortality. He was married to Queen Kestra.

But Mudan's reign was not without turmoil. His counselor and eventual rival, Sadeel, was a powerful sorcerer whose jealousy and manipulation sowed the seeds of division. Some tales say Sadeel disguised his voice to trick Mudan into relinquishing magic, claiming it drained the Phoenix herself. Others say Sadeel and Mudan’s final conflict stemmed from personal betrayal.

Regardless, Mudan ultimately faced a greater threat: the Shadow, a byproduct of wicked magic and human hubris. In the mythic tale of the Midsummer Eclipse, Mudan sacrificed himself to stop this entity, which claimed to be the darkness within Man himself. Seeking to destroy the Shadow within his own heart, he turned to Sadeel—who told him that to extinguish that darkness, Mudan would have to die. Mudan accepted this, choosing the world over himself.

His legacy is complex. Some revere him as a godlike savior, the Phoenix’s son destined to return and reshape the world. Others recall him as a tyrant whose control and decisions helped bring about humanity’s collapse. His rule ended in civil war, rebellion, or cataclysm—accounts differ—but what remains is a world shaped by his presence and absence.
