Description

The Midnight Jaakcat is a creature with an appearance resembling a combination of a cat and rabbit. Unlike its common counterpart, the Midnight Jaakcat has dark grey fur with a pale grey belly, chest, and muzzle, along with stripes along its back in the same color. It has bright orange eyes with slit black pupils and four long curved ears, which move direction as it listens intently to its surroundings.

While Midnight Jaakcats are very distinguishable from Common Jaakcats, it may be difficult to distinguish them from a Hollow Jaakcat at a distance, as both are very dark in color. However, the Midnight Jaakcat can be distinguished as it lacks any bright blue accent colors like the Hollow Jaakcat.

Location

Midnight Jaakcats are found all across the Royal Highlands, and are exclusive to the region. They most commonly spawn in The Standing Cliffs, Amber Lake, Kestra River, Enfield Shores, Lonely Glen, Royal Hunting Grounds, and close to Points of Interest such as House of Nightshade and Enfield Manor.

Behavior

When left alone, Midnight Jaakcats can be seen idling by pacing around. They'll often stop to scratch themselves with their back foot or stand on their hind legs to read their surroundings. When doing so, a Jaakcat will perk up its four ears and twist them in different directions while looking around the area.

When a player comes within a semi-close radius, the Midnight Jaakcat may stand up straight on its two back legs and look around for a possible threat. They may also take this stance after fleeing, and will resume idle behaviors when the player threat has passed.

If a player comes too close within range, hits the Midnight Jaakcat with an arrow, or fires an arrow and misses, the Midnight Jaakcat will begin to flee very quickly by leaping similarly to a rabbit in the opposite direction of the arrow's source. The Midnight Jaakcat will move in a straight line until it collides with an object, or until another arrow is fired in their direction, where they will move in the opposite direction of the arrow.

A few seconds after a threat has passed, the Midnight Jaakcat will eventually go back to an idle state, but will retain any damage taken from previous hits.

Hunting

Midnight Jaakcats have a health pool of (Unknown), and take 3 hits with Fine Arrows to be felled.

Possible Drops

Jaakcat Meat Jaakcat Fur Midnight Jaakcat Floof Midnight Jaakcat Plush Amber Echo

Jaakcats that are not encased in Amber will drop 10 - 14 Amber Echo when felled.

Amber-Encased Jaakcats will drop 18 - 23 Amber Echo when felled.

Note: You will always receive 3 Jaakcat Fur when you successfully hunt a Midnight Jaakcat.

Masked Variants

Like the Royal Sernuk, many Flow-Aspected Midnight Jaakcats can be found within the Royal Highlands, donning masks imbued with elemental flow essence. These masks give the creature certain abilities that make hunting them more challenging.

All masked creatures will hold some form of flow-aspected shield around them, varying on placement depending on the element. These shields, if hit with an arrow, will stun the player and make tools unusable for a few seconds, unless the player is using a Dispel Arrow.

If the player hits the shield, it will absorb the first hit, causing no damage to the creature, but dropping the shield. If the player hits around the shield before the creature notices, the masked creature will be stunned for a few seconds.

Spiritfest

During the span of the Spiritfest holiday, Jaakcats can be found in a limited-time Ghastly variation. Ghastly Jaakcats will don a glowing pumpkin on their head, with a ragged cloth draped over their backs. These variants don't have any unique skills different from their standard forms, but will have a chance to drop Tattered Cloth when felled.

Ghastly Jaakcats can also appear in Amber-Encased and Masked forms. These Jaakcats will have the same traits and abilities of the standard masked variations.
