Creatures

Look it up in Palia Pal

Creatures play an integral role in the vast ecosystem of Palia. When it comes to engaging most creatures, Hunting, Fishing, and Bug Catching certainly have their time and place, but there are some that can be domesticated through Ranching, become a loyal companion, or even be admired from afar. What follows is a general breakdown of the known creatures of Palia. For more details about a specific creature, please visit its respective page.

Birds

Peki

Pekis of Palia

Bahari Peki PS Bahari Peki Barafaan Peki PS Barafaan Peki Umbraan Peki PS Umbraan Peki

A natural alarm clock and the main producer of eggs in Palia, the Peki is a common sight in rural Bahari.

- In-Game Description

Pekis are small creatures akin to chickens, complete with wings and feathers. While their crowing can be loud and sometimes annoying, Peki eggs are a breakfast favorite, so well worth the trouble.

Delaila tends to the pekis on her family's farm, often collecting eggs from Petunia or checking what trouble ol' Feathers has been up to lately. Just like Delaila, the Player can also keep their own pekis on their Ranch.

The best part about Pekis is they can become loyal companions to Players!

Silverwing

Silverwings of Palia
Young Silverwing Nest With Silverwing Ingame Silverwing

Unfortunately for you, darling, they only perch on top of the highest cliffs.

- Tamala

Silverwings are formidable birds of prey who emit loud vocalizations and whose wings are naturally laden with Flow. Their eggs typically come in a variety of colors, based on the type of flow that is in the area. If part of a flock, silverwings will deposit their eggs within a communal nest. They also have an unusual tendency to ride on each others' backs during migration.

One silverwing, known by the name of Goldwing, was documented as being the largest and oldest known specimen.

Azure Wol Promo Wol

No hero is complete without a trusty companion. The high-flying Wol pet will soar the skies right alongside you on your journey.

- Official 0.186 Patch Notes

Wols are small flying creatures, very much like owls. They are the first pets that fly instead of walk. Each wol wears a bandana around its neck and carries a little bag on its back.

The best thing about wols is that they can become loyal companions to Players!

Bugs

Bugs of Palia
Almanac Insects Bugs

The firebreathing dragonfly is definitely my favorite bug. Hands down!

- Auni

Bugs can be found all over Palia and certain ones will only appear at certain times of the day. Different bugs have different behaviors, such as flying around areas of water, crawling through tall grasses or even hiding inside rocks. Astute catchers will need to learn when and where their marks lurk in order to best chase and trap them.

Skilled bug catchers can even snag specimens worth putting on display in their homes.

Bumble

Bumbles of Palia
BumbleAdultDefault Bumble BumbleBumble Bumble for Ranching
Honey Bumble PS Honey Bumble Chocolate Bumble PS Chocolate Bumble Spectral Bumble PS Spectral Bumble

Palian bees are known for being particularly friendly and fond of their keepers. When well looked after, they naturally produce more honey than they can ever consume alone!

- In-Game Description

Bumbles are round bee-like creatures with a little crown on their heads and a knack for sweet things, particularly making honey! They often make much more honey than they can use, and are more than happy to give some to the Player on their Ranch.

The best part about Bumbles is they can become loyal companions to Players!

Fishes

Fishes of Palia
Almanac Fish Fish

. . . Palia's rivers, lakes, and ocean are full of beautiful fish. Many are tasty, and all of them have charm.

- Almanac of Palia

Fishes come in all shapes, sizes, and colors. They can be found in ponds, lakes, rivers, and, if a fisherman is particularly lucky, on a dinner plate. Of course, if what is caught looks more like a waterlogged boot, well...then that probably is not a fish.

In addition to location and time of day, a fisherman's use of different bait (or no bait at all!) could prove helpful in catching something worth showcasing in their home.

Mammals

Beast of the Elderwood

Beast of the Elderwood
Beast of the Elderwood Profile Beast of the Elderwood Beast of the Elderwood Ingame Beast of the Elderwood Ingame

These tracks over here, they're too big to be anything else's. It passed through here... recently.

Could even be watching us from those trees...

- Sifuu

The Beast of the Elderwood, for years an elusive and mysterious creature that stalked the Elderwood and threatened all who met it, was finally tracked down and found hiding within the Royal Highlands. The beast's appearance seems almost like that of a sabre-toothed tiger, possessing large tusk-like teeth protruding from its top lip. The rest of its body is made of a dark violet flow-like matter, spattered with sparkling white stars and glowing pink patterns along its face. This beast has not been witnessed by many, as those who do typically meet an ill fate. However, Hassian himself claimed to have seen the beast, even noting that he recognized something in its eyes.

As the Player ventures through the main quest story line, they will find out the truth of the Beast, where it came from, and who exactly it is.

These little pests should be removed at all costs.

- Hassian

Chapaas are noisy and mischievous critters, similar to beavers, that can be found all over Kilima Valley and Bahari Bay. True to their invasive nature, they are known for stealing items, like shiny spoons, and hiding them in their nests made of sticks and twigs.

Compared to the frustration of chasing them around the Fairgrounds during the Maji Market, hunting chapaas will seem like a breeze. Just be aware that when approached, a chapaa will attempt to run away and, if allowed, will burrow itself into the ground to escape.

I think that's a... horse. They went extinct around the time the Humans did. I've only seen them in old murals in the ruins. It shouldn't be here... but then, neither should you. Maybe Humans are not the only souls your Phoenix brought back.

- Hassian

Horses, once thought to be extinct alongside the Humans, returned to the world of Palia and were found roaming the Royal Highlands. They come in several different breeds, and provide the Player with various types of fertilizer and, in the Phoenixfire Dawnspur's case, many delicious spicy dishes!

Horses can be used as Mounts, which provide the Player with a faster mode of travel across the world of Palia.

Jaakcat

Jaakcats of Palia
Jaakcat Closeup Jaakcats
JaakcatJaakcat Jaakcat Midnight JaakcatMidnight Jaakcat Midnight Jaakcat Hollow JaakcatHollow Jaakcat Hollow Jaakcat

These mischievous rascals are tricksters and thieves, and their name is directly tied to the playful chaos of Jaak-o-lanterns, which were inspired by the Jaakcats’ antics.

- Official 0.202 Patch Notes

Jaakcats are cat-rabbit-like creatures found all over the Royal Highlands. You have these devious creatures to thank for the iconic imagery of Jaak-o-lanterns and the holiday of Spirit Fest. While the Jaak-o-lanterns may not directly resemble the Jaakcats in appearance, the aura of mischief and chaos that surrounds the holiday was directly inspired by them.

Though they may be mischievous in nature, Jaakcats are also easily spooked and prefer to keep their distance from people. When hunting them, they'll often bound away very quickly like a rabbit, so it's very useful to catch the Jaakcat by surprise, and have plenty of Arrows on hand.

- Hassian

Kitsuus are fox-like creatures with two tails, very large ears, white markings, and antlers. Once thought to have gone extinct, most believe kitsuus to be deserving of great respect. Due to their reclusive and shy behavior, they tend to run away when approached.

The best thing about kitsuus is that they can become loyal companions to players!

Muujin

Muujins of Palia
Muujin Ingame Muujins
MuujinMuujin Muujin Banded MuujinBanded Muujin Banded Muujin Bluebristle MuujinBluebristle Muujin Bluebristle Muujin

You might be in for a surprise if one manages to jump into a Flow Tree.

- S6 Forseti

Muujins are wolf-like creatures found in areas of Bahari Bay and the Elderwood that are dense with Trees. While the meat can be quite gamey, with the right skill and care, a rich and sumptuous dish can be produced. It is one such dish that was rumored to be the favorite of a certain baron, and possibly led to his early demise.

When hunting muujins, be sure to bring an Axe, because once they are alerted, muujins will attempt to seek shelter in a nearby tree. Thankfully, the occupied tree can then be cut down to flush out the hiding muujin, but hunters will need to be quick to capture the once-again-fleeing beast before it can climb into another tree.

Riffrocs will lay eggs rather than give live birth to their young, and appear to be omnivorous rather than herbivorous like regular horses!

Riffrocs are even available to the Player to be used as a mount and ranching companion, and will provide hunting spoils like meat and hides in return for plenty of love and care.

Sugarfoot is one such riffroc, owned and beloved by Nai'o, and is known for her love of carrots. After completing the quests to obtain Riffrocs as a mount, Sugarfoot will be visible to the Player in the Daiya farm!

As such, The Order is known to breed their own sernuks, a variant of the proudhorned sernuk, to pull their carriages. Sernuks can be found all over Palia, often grazing in small herds in the grassy fields of both Kilima Valley and Bahari Bay. A second variant of Sernuk, the Royal Sernuk, can be found exclusively within the Royal Highlands.

Though sernuk hides and meat can be used in various crafts, these gentle creatures are often sought after for their prized antlers. When spooked or actively hunted, a sernuk will seek to escape in a series of random dashes in different directions. To help overcome that, hunters should come prepared with a variety of Arrows to both do greater damage and slow it down for easier tracking.
